Sunday, August 26
EAST BAY BOOKSELLERS welcomes Julie Kaderabek, RN and Laura Wolfe, RN to discuss their book, Surgery Day, on Sunday, August 26th at 3pm.
Surgery Day introduces the reader to Tollie McStretch, an eight-year-old giraffe. Tollie breaks his arm and needs surgery to fix it. He has never had surgery nor has anyone he knows. The reader follows him throughout his surgery day seeing all the animals he meets and learning about their jobs. By the end of the book he decides his job is to spread the word to other children and inform them on many of the things they might see and do on their surgery day.
Throughout the book there is a character, Ted Tellyou, that provides more detailed information directed to parents. This information, along with the glossary of medical terms and Surgery Day Checklist, can help a parent feel better prepared on their child’s surgery day. There is a tremendous amount of research showing that if children and their parent are prepared there are better outcomes, less behavioral issues, and a decrease in fear and stress level.
